Fun and Educational Things to do in and around Guilford County
Greensboro
Public Library: The GPL maintains
an outstanding website with the ability to search materials and
request holds. An invaluable tool for home educators
who are
looking for just the right book on a specific topic - at 10:00
p.m.!!
The library also provides
classes geared toward home educated
children of all ages. Check out their research classes for
middle
school children or one of their book clubs/discussion groups.
The
GHE monthly newsletter is a good source for these upcoming
events.
Natural
Science Center: The Natural Science
Center, located on Lawndale Avenue, provides a series of home education
science classes. The classes typically run during two 6-7
weeks
sessions - once in the fall and once in the spring. Contact
the

The
Greensboro Children’s Museum: The Greensboro
Children s Museum offers classes to homeschoolers as well as a fun
environment to learn for younger children.
Greensboro
Historical Museum: The museum offers
some outstanding tours and a staff that is very willing to gear a tour
to your specific interests. Are you doing a unit study on the
American Revolution or the lives of early settlers? Then you
should tour their log cabins and talk with the herb
specialists!
Their staff is VERY WILLING to work with home educators to plan an
informative and age-appropriate outing. Contact them!
Guilford
Courthouse National Military Park: Did you
know Greensboro is home to a national military park? Check it
out. Don't forget to pick up your National Park Passport (for
a
few dollars) and have it stamped. Every time you visit a
national
park, you can have your passport stamped. See how many the
family
can collect.
North
Carolina State Historic Sites: Greensboro
is fortunate to be close to several state historic sites.
Check
out the state historic website. We are not far from Town
Creek
(Did you know that mound building tribes once lived in North
Carolina?), and Horne Creek (This is a wonderful trip!).
Center for
Creative Arts & Greensboro Art Alliance: These
are 2 different arts organizations. Both provide home
education
art classes. The Center for Creative Arts provides a

(broken into 2 semesters) Home education Fine Arts program.
The
Art Alliance of Greensboro provides classes throughout the school year
geared toward home education students. Contact the Center for
Creative Arts and the Greensboro Art Alliance for details.

and gymnastics are a
few of the offerings provided by the YMCA and YWCA of
